The Piedmont Triad Livable Communities Summit was a SUCCESS! Great turnout and excellent message. Ray LaHood's speech was uplifting and inspirational.

In the United States the typical American family on average spends 60% of its income on housing and transportation cost. As our region continues to grow we must take action to integrate land use, transportation and housing to create livable, sustainable communities. On April 28th the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) and the Piedmont Triad Partnership (PTP) hosted the first Piedmont Triad Livable Communities Summit. This summit featured US Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood who talked about how our region can move forward together and become a significant destination.

The Summit, which included a town hall meeting with Secretary LaHood, focused on how we can create livable communities by: providing more transportation choices; promoting equitable and affordable housing; enhancing economic competitiveness; supporting existing communities and their neighborhoods; and, coordinating and leveraging federal policies.
