The 2008 Triad Commute Challenge – A Great Success!

We are excited to report that 1,571 people pledged to get out of their single occupancy vehicles and try an alternative form of transportation between March 1st and May 31st, 2008.

If each participant tried their chosen alternative commute option just once, the reduction in vehicle miles traveled (VMT) is 103,686 miles.

Those 103,686 miles people didn’t drive alone in their car, add up to:

  • 20,166.93 NOT spent on gas

And the following pollutants NOT put into the air and environment:

  • 7 tons of Carbon dioxide (CO2)
  • 424 lbs. of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx)
  • 24 lbs. of Sulfur Oxides (SOx)
  • 3,559 lbs. of Carbon monoxide (CO)
  • 361 lbs. of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
  • 12 lbs. of course particle pollution (PM10)

These pollutants contribute to ground level ozone formation in the triad and climate change. Well done Triad Commute Challenge participants!! Keep up the great work!
